South West Fire & Rescue Services select Becrypt cyber security solutions to protect sensitive citizen data
Dorset Fire and Rescue implements Becrypt as part of CoCo requirement ahead of Olympics
London, UK, 11 July 2012 Becrypt, the leading supplier of cyber security solutions to the UK government and wider public sector, has been selected by South West Fire & Rescue Services (FRS) to provide a range of data encryption systems. Dorset, Wiltshire and Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Services will all be rolling out the new systems, which include full disk encryption for IL 2 (PROTECT) and IL 3 (RESTRICT) level data, two factor authentication, removable media encryption and central management. Dorset FRS will implement first, due to the need to have the system in place before the Olympics. Becrypt was selected because at the time it was the only solution to be approved under the CESG Product Assurance (CPA) scheme.
Dorset FRS is installing Becrypt DISK Protect CPA encryption software on laptops used by key operational staff, including silver level commanders and the Olympics and Resilience team. Silver staff typically manage major incidents. The second phase of the roll out, which is being managed using Becrypt Enterprise Manager, is providing DISK Protect Commercial for staff dealing with prevention services. Typically these staff need to share sensitive citizen data, often containing medical or criminal records, with other agencies such as police and social services. Now should a laptop be lost or stolen no data can be accessed, even using specialist tools.
Wiltshire FRS is expected to roll out during July and Devon & Somerset FRS will follow in August this year.
Vikki Shearing, Head of Information Management at Dorset Fire & Rescue Service said "By implementing Becrypt cyber security solutions as part of our programme of measures to connect to the Government Secure Intranet Convergence Framework, we have a range of solutions that meet differing staff requirements to protect various levels of sensitive data. Using one supplier for all these levels is not only easier to manage, but cost effective, and it has enabled us to meet our deadline to have the system ready before the Olympics."
Bernard Parsons, CEO of Becrypt said "Becrypt is committed to providing data security solutions to protect every level of data, suitable for both public sector and commercial organisations. For those that need to protect several different levels of data, like Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset & Devon Fire & Rescue Services, Becrypt is ideal because our central management solution enables fast remote deployment and management of the entire encrypted estate. In the case of Dorset this ensures a fast roll out, while data is protected at the most appropriate level."
